Thomas Warfield is the liturgical dancer who performed at Sacred Heart Cathedral during the Chrism Mass earlier this week. Here an an excerpt from a press release announcing his winning of the RIT Isaac L. Jordan Diversity Award:
He coordinates the local Education for Peace conference and ARTWalk Alive Festival, participates on the boards of Nazareth College Dance Festival, The Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus and AIDS Rochester.
And, from the Empire State Pride Agenda’s Freedom to Marry website:
It is vital for people of all races, backgrounds and beliefs to stand up against any discriminated(sic) and injustice. As a Marriage Equality activist for the Empire State Pride Agenda I believe it is a civil rights issue. Equality is an intrinsic element in the fabric of America; and if any of us are not free to share our love and life with whom we choose then all of us are enslaved and less than what we might be. We need to demand the right to celebrate the many ways we love and demonstrate our commitments to each other and to give voice to the freedom and justice that only equality can give.” Thomas Warfield, Performer
I don’t see anything in his background that even remotely suggests that Mr. Warfield is a practicing Catholic. If liturgical dance is a form of worship, shouldn’t the worshiper at least be Catholic? And how does being on the board of the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus and AIDS Rochester square with Catholic teaching about homosexuality? Or advocating for homosexual marriage?
