Finding Holiness in Steubenville

My wife and I have just returned from a two day visit with the Sisters of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Steubenville, Ohio. These wonderful nuns live a life of reparation that reflects and reproduces the sacrifice which Jesus made of Himself to the Father. They do this through Eucharistic adoration, devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, devotion to Divine Mercy, contemplation of Christ’s death and resurrection, Marian devotion, and an intense teaching apostolate that is active in schools, parishes and missions.

The Sisters of Reparation are under the leadership of Mother M. Wendy McMenamy, one of the most dynamic, creative and energetic people I have ever met. Her sisters are models of charity, spirituality and hospitality. They are situated on a beautiful piece of land just outside of Steubenville.

In addition to all their spiritual duties, the sisters work this land in order to produce various fruits and vegetables for their sustenance. They also have a large number of chickens that provide them with dozens of eggs each day.

Mother Wendy’s dream is to construct a church on their grounds that would serve as a place of pilgrimage and prayer. In order to make this dream a reality, Mother Wendy has spent years collecting furnishings from churches that were being shut down or “renovated”. She has acquired everything from stained glass windows to confessionals. She even has three rather large church bells that she rescued from a church in Cincinnati. One of the bells, weighing about 3 tons, sits under a lean-to awaiting its future home.

Faithful Catholics in the Rochester area have a heavy cross to bear because of the permeation of liberalism and dissidence in this diocese. We can sometimes forget that there are vibrant priests and religious in other parts of the country who are completely loyal to the Magisterium. They are driven not by ego or political agenda, but by the love of Jesus Christ and the Church that He left us. They don’t engage in advocacy for women priests or liturgical anarchy, but have as their mission the salvation of souls. They are the unsung heroes of our time.

Mother Wendy and her Sisters of Reparation are the embodiment of this religious heroism. They go about their daily business with firm purpose and great joy. They love the Lord and His Church. Their humble attitude and joyful obedience display the way of perfection that we all must follow in order to be saved.

Please take a moment to go to their website and make a contribution to this extraordinary religious order. I guarantee that your gift will be looked upon most favorably by Our Lord.

The Sisters of Reparation are the future of the Church. They need your support so that they can expand their convent for future postulants, including one from the Rochester area. And, they need your support so that Mother Wendy can build her magnificent church.

Thank you Lord Jesus for the Sisters of Reparation. Please bless them abundantly.
