Bishop Gracida Nails It

Charleston diocesan administrator, Msgr. Laughlin, had this to say in response to the controversy over Father Newman’s advice to pro-Obama Catholics:

“Therefore, if a person has formed his or her conscience well, he or she should not be denied Communion, nor be told to go to confession before receiving Communion,” Msgr. Laughlin said. “The pulpit is reserved for the Word of God. Sometimes God’s truth, as is the church’s teaching on abortion, is unpopular. All Catholics must be aware of and follow the teachings of the church.”

Bishop Gracida had this to say:

Bishop Emeritus Rene Henry Gracida of Corpus Christi, TX, told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) his reaction to Fr. Newman’s letter “is one of admiration and awe. I find nothing in what he has written that is at variance with the Magisterium of the Church. He is to be congratulated.”

I think I’ll go with Bishop Gracida’s analysis. A person with a well formed conscience would not vote for a notorius pro-abort.

Thank you Father Newman for not speaking with a forked tongue.
