  1. The Babies be Damned

I received a flyer in the mail today from the Joe Morelle campaign that promotes his community advocacy and his supposed protection of our families. On the inside of the flyer is a smiling Morelle alongside Father Tanck, pastor of Christ the King, St. Thomas the Apostle, and St. Salome. The photo was taken at an event announcing Morelle’s securing of tax dollars for a housing project at St. Salome.

  2. 219 Silent Bishops

From an article in the LA Times:

National polls have shown for some time that, although Catholics are personally opposed to abortion, they believe it ought to be legal in nearly identical percentages to the rest of America. Moreover, as a survey by Georgetown University’s Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate found earlier this year, only 18% of Catholics “strongly” agree with the statement: “In deciding what is morally acceptable, I look to the church teachings and statements by the pope and bishops to form my conscience.

  3. Bishop Martino Let’s Them Have It

The bishop of Scranton has some choice words for the seamless garment Catholics and the USCCB:

Martino (Bishop Joseph), who arrived while the panelists were stating their viewpoints, took issue with the USCCB statement, which was handed out to everyone at the meeting, and also that his letter was not mentioned once at the forum. “No USCCB document is relevant in this diocese,” said Martino. “The USCCB doesn’t speak for me.”… “No social issue has caused the death of 50 million people,” he said, noting that he no longer supports the Democratic Party. “This is madness people.” (Full article)

Three cheers (and many prayers) for Bishop Martino, a true warrior.

  4. Another Priestess Sighting in the DOR

From Rich Leonardi’s “Ten Reasons” web site:

My friend went today to Church of the Good Shepherd in Henrietta (the new home of Nancy DeRycke, the woman I mentioned before who co-read the gospel with a priest at Church of the Resurrection in Fairport, and takes a pretty active role in the Mass. Sr. Joan Jr. basically). She didn’t do any gospel reading this time, thankfully, but she did have a female layperson give a homily at the Mass. (Click here for video link to priestess’ “homily”)

  5. Thank You Bishop

    From CatholicCulture.com:

A retired US bishop has issued a public statement declaring that Catholics cannot in good conscience vote for Barack Obama in this year’s presidential election. “A Catholic cannot be said to have voted in this election with a good conscience if they have voted for a pro-abortion candidate. Barack Hussein Obama is a pro-abortion candidate,” said Bishop Rene Gracida, the retired head of the Corpus Christ, Texas diocese. Bishop Gracida’s statement has been released as a potential radio advertisment by pro-life activist Randall Terry

  6. Our Seamless Garment Bishops

David Warren, a Canadian journalist, comments on some of our bishops’ less than enthusiastic defense of innocent life:
While I have read cogent and courageous remarks by, for instance, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver, the general tenor of bishops’ statements through the interminable election campaign, including the USCCB’s, has been mealy-mouthed. They consistently oppose abortion, but with the same tone and force they also oppose, for example, “poverty in America,” global warming, capital punishment, the war in Iraq — thus burying a moral absolute under a series of Democrat-friendly moral imponderables, and wantonly confusing an unambiguous doctrinal issue with a smorgasbord of secular judgment calls. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  7. Obama’s Number One Priority

The following is an excerpt from a story on Lifesite News:

“The first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” Obama said in his July speech to abortion advocates worried about the increase of pro-life legislation at the state level.

I wonder, how do “common good” pro-Obama Catholics rationalize this statement of his priorities? They keep telling us how important other issues are for Catholics, yet Obama’s self stated number one issue is the promotion of even more baby killing.

Perhaps the Catholic Obama supporters will finally get it when, one day, Catholic politicians are excommunicated for aiding and abetting baby killers. The “common good” Catholics will then be forced to reconcile the fact that these dishonest politicians aren’t being excommunicated for their positions on health care, poverty programs, war, or the death penalty. It will become self evident that abortion is the number one issue that trumps all others.

That day cannot come soon enough.

  8. The Party of Death’s Shameful History

For those who think the Democratic party is the champion of the poor and disenfranchised, consider the following from the web site of Larry Elder:

Do you know that Democrats opposed the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution – abolishing slavery, granting citizenship rights to newly freed slaves, and guaranteeing the right to vote (at least on paper) to blacks, respectively? Do you know that most of the politicians who stood for segregation were Southern Democrats? Do you know that the Ku Klux Klan was founded by Democrats, one of whose goals was to stop the spread of the Republican Party? Do you know that, as a percentage of the party, more Republicans than Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964?…Do you know that today 70 percent of black children and over 50 percent of Hispanics are born outside of wedlock? The welfare state – which Democrats want to expand – has played a huge role in discouraging marriage and destabilizing families…Republicans give far more of their money and time for charitable purposes than do Democrats. And the giving is not confined to their churches or other houses of worship. This, by the way, has nothing to do with income. Poor Republicans give more than poor Democrats.

And don’t forget Archbishop Burke’s description of the Democrats as “the party of death”.

  9. The Always Confusing Father Mcbrien

The following is from a recent column by Father McBrien:

Senator Obama also made clear that, while he is “pro-choice,” he is not “pro-abortion.” Too many in the anti-abortion movement do not see how this is possible.
However, if one can agree that “pro-choice” is not primarily a moral stance but mainly a political and legal one, such a distinction, however controversial, does become possible.

So would Father Mcbrien give a free pass to someone who is pro-choice on racism? Would he give a free pass to someone who is pro-choice on slavery? How about a free pass to someone who is pro-choice on homicide?

The bigger question is, why is this man’s column carried in our local Catholic Courier?

  10. Proud Sponsors of “Image Out”

The following is a description of one of the pornographic movies being shown at this month’s “Image Out” Film Festival.

Fresh out of their first year of college, the friends have decided to fly to Fort Lauderdale for “Gays Gone Wild!” – a week-long event in which they’ll enjoy the beaches, drink themselves silly, and have as much casual sex as they can stand (think MTV’s Spring Break, with more go-go boys and an endless supply of lube). Once they arrive at their destination they are introduced to the contest, which is the centerpiece of the festivities. Every gay on the beach will compete to see who can have sex with the most partners over the course of the week, and the winner will receive a trip to Asbury Park, New Jersey (don’t ask) and their very own muscled rent boy, along with earning the prestigious title of “Miss Gays Gone Wild!”

This pornographic festival is being supported with your hard earned tax dollars. Mayor Robert Duffy and Senator James Alesi are listed as festival sponsors. Thankfully Senator Joe Robach is no longer listed as a sponsor. He dropped his sponsorship last year after it was exposed on this web site.

I wonder-would Mayor Duffy and Senator Alesi agree to be sponsors of a heterosexual pornographic film festival? If not, then why not? Porn is porn no matter who is involved. Most people understand this, but morally confused politicians just don’t seem to get it.

Be forewarned that links to the Image Out web site will connect you to pornographic images and language.

  11. Unitarian in Charge of Counseling at CFC

    From this morning’s D&C:

Nearly 20 years ago, Tina Simson went to a friend’s funeral at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester and found a home…Simson, 54, of Victor, is the director of counseling at the Catholic Family Center. She and her husband, Joe, had been looking for a church without much luck. But at First Unitarian, she says, she found an “acceptance of doubt and questioning and diversity. It was OK to just not know what we believed.”

  12. High Poverty Rates Trump Baby Killing?

The following is excerpted from the October issue of the Catholic Courier:

…it’s hard to fault Catholic voters such as Kmiec for being concerned about vital issues that may not fall under the heading of intrinsic evils. Mich(director of social policy for the Catholic family center) observed that voters face a dilemma when, for instance, high poverty rates under an anti-abortion president might actually cause more women to seek abortions.

This is absolute rubbish. I don’t have any difficulty faulting Catholics who would vote for a radical pro-abortion politician such as Barack Obama. The killing of babies cannot be tolerated nor endorsed by any serious Catholic. Let’s save the babies first then worry about high poverty rates(whatever that means).

  13. Can’t Let the Truth Get Out

The following is from author Brad O’Leary, talking about his attempt to promote “The Audacity of Deceit: Barack Obama’s War on American Values”:

My print ads to promote the book have been censored by the editors of 192 of 194 Catholic diocesan newspapers,” he said. “Only two small diocese [papers] in Wisconsin and Massachusetts would run the ads. This ad only talked about public polling and Catholic responses.

I guess the Catholic media doesn’t want the truth to get out about Obama’s passion for baby killing. After all, he’s such a good liberal.
