This from Muhammad Shafiq in this morning’s D&C:
With Imam Mohammad, Islam in America took a new historic turn. Americans had equated mainstream Islam with that of Nation of Islam and that it was a religion of hate and rejection. To many it was the “devil” religion and very few could think of Islam as part of Abrahamic faith and a religion of peace, love and care.
And this from ex-Muslim Muhammad Kemel in today’s World Net Daily:
Sadly I heard some of our American leaders and church pastors state that Islam is a peaceful religion, and what happened on 9/11 was done by fanatic Muslims…These individuals ignore the fact that the main goal of Islam is to rule the world…the average peaceful Muslim and moderate western Muslim are that way because they have not studied the Quran…If a Muslim begins to study the Quran, understands the true religion of Islam, and what true Islam requires a true Muslim to do, he will either reject Islam or he will become a Muslim committed to violence.
They can’t both be right, can they?

A college junior, Ted Janiszewski is a Catholic convert of three years. In many ways, he is much like any ambitious student, full of plans and interests. He is in the honors program at the Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in Information Technology and minoring in History. He is an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoys soccer and reading. He has a fondness for Latin and studies ancient Greek on weekends outside of his regular classes. However, he is also somewhat unique in that his young life has been characterized by a yearning for a deeper understanding of true faith, and a zeal for Christian unity. In describing his journey to Catholicism, he is confident and articulate. “I’ve been so richly blessed,” he reflects, “God has truly had His hand on my life.”

Eighteen members of Defend Life were recently arrested in The People’s Republic of Maryland for holding a peaceful pro-life demonstration. No reason was given for the arrest as the demonstrators were strip searched and placed in leg shackles. They were released from jail the next morning without further explanation. So far, not a peep from the ACLU.
The American Life League has posted a full video report on its web site.

The photograph below is from Sister Joan’s installation ceremony at St. Anne parish. Personally, I’d much rather see an ordination of a man to the priesthood. (Photo courtesy of Rich Leonardi).

Bishop Vasa sets the record straight on voting for pro-aborts such as Obama:
Speaking of politicians with a pro-abortion stand he said, “When we have someone who has that stand on a disqualifying issue, then the other issues, in many ways, do not matter because they are already wrong on that absolutely fundamental issue.”…Bishop Vasa explained the notion of proportionate reasons, saying, “The conditions under which an individual may be able to vote for a pro-abortion candidate would apply only if all the candidates are equally pro-abortion.”

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen had this to say on the floor of the House on Wednesday:
Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about; Pontius Pilate was a governor.
So the Way, the Truth, and the Life was a community organizer, Barack is Jesus, and Palin is Pilate. And I suppose Cohen is John the Baptist.
Some say that liberalism is a mental illness. It seems that lately the Left is doing its best to fulfill that description.

The following is from California Catholic Daily:
Doug Kmiec, the Pepperdine University law professor, former Reagan administration official, onetime dean of the law school at the Catholic University of America, and pro-life Catholic who has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president, explained his support for the pro-abortion rights candidate in a meeting of the “Faith in Action” panel on Aug. 28 at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Saying the phrase “culture of life” is used a lot, Kmiec declared, “I, too, am pro-life.” However, he added, being pro-life “has to be a commitment to all life.” Not providing a living wage is one way in which some self-professed pro-lifers are not committed to all life, he said.

The following is from Senator Joe Biden on yesterday’s Meet the Press:
For me, as a Roman Catholic, I’m prepared to accept the teachings of my church…I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception. But that is my judgment. For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society.

Senator McCain’s bold selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate has exposed the radical feminist movement’s true agenda for all to see. Palin’s selection has proved that the most important issue for these feminists is not the advancement of women but the killing of pre-born babies.
Thank you John McCain for helping to shine the light of truth on the radical feminists and their passion for baby killing.

The September issue of the Catholic Courier features a column by Father William Byron that touts a gathering this past July called “Convention for the Common Good“. A key sponsor of this convention was a group known as “Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good“. When this group was in the formation process, former U.S Ambassador to the Vatican, Ray Flynn, was solicited to become a board member. Mr. Flynn declined when told that this group would not support efforts to legally curtail abortion.

The following quote is from Archbishop Burke, head of the Vatican’s highest court:
“A person who commits sin in this way should be publicly admonished in such a way as to not receive Communion until he or she has reformed his life,” the archbishop said. “If a person who has been admonished persists in public mortal sin and attempts to receive Communion, the minister of the Eucharist has the obligation to deny it to him. Why? Above all, for the salvation of that person, preventing him from committing a sacrilege,” he added. (Lifesite News)
Archbishop Niederauer of San Francisco has received many letters and emails requesting that something be done about House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, who is a resident of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Concerned Catholics are questioning why she is still able to receive Holy Communion. Archbishop Niederauer, in a letter to his flock, says that he is still trying to discern the issue.

Why is it that radical feminists only support the elevation of other radical feminists in their delusional pursuit of “gender equality”? Case in point is the GOP nominee for vice president, Sarah Palin. Palin, unlike the Democratic Party also ran, Hillary Clinton, apparently has made her own way in politics. She didn’t latch on to her husband’s coattails in order to be elected to a prominent political position.

From this morning’s D&C:
When Clark announced the closing of the schools, he said that the savings gained by the closings would allow the diocese to lower tuition from $4,050 a year to $2,950 for families that chose to continue in diocesan schools. Parents like Greece resident Lynn Ringholz say that they will actually be paying more, despite no appreciable change in household income or financial status.
Ringholz said that her base tuition costs decreased, but the tuition assistance she received from the diocese decreased more and her actual bill will be $1,560 higher than last year.
“I feel very angry,” she said, noting the diocese’s statements that closing the schools would make Catholic school more accessible to more families. “They’ve closed 13 schools and now I’m told my tuition bill is going to be up 60 percent?”
Enrollment in diocesan schools has declined by 1200 students since last year. Tuition has actually increased for some families. The Catholic Courier is running advertisements that solicit students to attend non-Catholic schools. This is progress?

It appears that St. Thomas the Apostle in Irondequoit is about to implement a change in a long standing policy which only allowed boys to be altar servers at their parish. The new proposal is a result of what some would call the hostile takeover of the parish by Christ the King in June of 2007. Others refer to this as “clustering”.
