  1. This Is Not Moral

The Rochester Museum and Science Center is currently featuring an exhibit of plasticized human bodies called “Our Bodies: The Universe Within”. The bodies in the exhibit originated in China, one of the most flagrant abusers of human rights in the world.

For example, it has been reported that China’s military is implicated in the harvesting of human organs from live prisoners(Click here for a full report). China’s record on abortion is dismal at best. And don’t forget China’s utilization of child slave labor in its manufacturing sector.

Well known Chinese human rights advocate, Harry Wu, had this to say about cadaver exhibits: “Life over there is very cheap,” Mr. Wu said. “It’s easy to get the cadaver of prisoners or people who die in hospital and use [them] for merchandise. Whatever document they issue is not reliable. “People say, ‘Oh, the government approved.’ What are they talking about? Government cannot approve what is immoral and wrong. If doctors need a body for research it’s necessary to save peoples lives, not for commercial exhibit.”

Of course, the Rochester Museum and Science Center assures us that their exhibit is perfectly ethical. This is what they have to say about the origin of these bodies:

“Q. Will we recognize or know any of the specimens in Our Body: The Universe Within and where do these specimens come from?

    A. All of the anatomical specimens contained in Our Body: The Universe Within originate from China and have been provided for the exhibit consistent with the laws of China. The anatomical specimens are not owned by the exhibitors, but are provided by a Chinese foundation to promote educational and medical research of the human body. While we do not have the specific identity of each anatomical specimen, they have been donated through medical schools and other research facilities in China to promote education, science and medical research of the human body.”

How reassuring is it to know that these bodies were obtained under circumstances that were “consistent with the laws of China”? I suppose that if China keeps poisoning us with lead then that statement may someday be credible. In the meantime, China’s record of forced abortion, organ harvesting, and slave labor should be enough to cause us to be very skeptical of any claims of ethical procurement of these “anatomical specimens”. Be sure to say a prayer for the souls of these “specimens”. It is the least we can do.

  2. Sodom And Gomorrah In San Fran

“There’s an unbelievable news story here,” he said. “The Folsom Street Fair is reminiscent of biblical Sodom and Gomorrah, and the media should document exactly what the city of San Francisco is allowing to occur in public in the name of ‘tolerance.’” (Warning: This link contains offensive photo).

  3. Something Amiss At BK

Yesterday’s Democrat and Chronicle featured a story about the auditioning of Bishop Kearney High School students for the MTV show “Made”. The producers of this show were invited onto the Bishop Kearney campus by Pricipal Julie Locey. Principal Locey told the newspaper that “She keeps up with what’s cool to students, including watching Made and even peeking in on student’s MySpace”.

I know that MTV is a very popular channel with our young people today. Unfortunately, MTV is also a cesspool of morally objectionable programming. It continually promotes values that are at odds with Christian morality. For example, a recent study found that “In 171 hours of MTV programming, PTC analysts found a staggering 1,548 sexual scenes containing 3,056 depictions of sex or various forms of nudity and 2,881 verbal sexual references”(Parent’s Television Council, 2/05). MTV has also launched a “gay” television network called “Logo”. MTV is also responsible for broadcasting the blatently anti-Catholic program called “Popetown”. Popetown is an animated program that depicts the pope as an uncontrollable, infantile character who pogo-sticks around the Vatican populated by corrupt, money-grabbing cardinals.

It is unfortunate that a Roman Catholic institution such as Bishop Kearney High School has lent legitimacy to a network that is actively hostile to Catholic faith and morality. In an effort to be “cool” and relevant the school is encouraging its students to participate in an event that supports a morally deviant television network. It is no wonder that young people today are so confused about right and wrong. The very people and institutions that they rely on for guidance are, in many cases, just as confused as our younger generation.

I know many fine people who send their children to Bishop Kearney High. The presence of MTV on the high school campus should serve as a warning that something is amiss at the King’s Highway facility. I would suggest that concerned parents contact the school’s officers and register their concern about this incident.

A summary of the Parents Television Council’s study “MTV Smutpeddlers” can be found here. The full study can be found here. Warning: The full report contains very graphic content(as does MTV’s programming).

  4. Motu Proprio

Rome, Sep. 14, 2007 (CWNews.com) – With the formal implementation of Summorum Pontificum, the Pope’s motu proprio providing wider access to the 1962 Roman Missal, diocesan priests do not need permission to celebrate the Latin Mass, a top Vatican official has stated.

Cardinal Dario Castrillon-Hoyos– the president of the Ecclesia Dei commission, which supervises Vatican outreach to traditionalist Catholics– says that “from this point, priests can decide to celebrate the Mass using the old rite, without permission from the Holy See or the bishop.”

  5. Kerry A Dedicated Catholic?

Catholic University in Washington, D.C., has invited Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to lecture on environmentalism and the war in Iraq. Kerry, who claims the Catholic faith, has a 100 percent approval rating from the pro-abortion group NARAL Pro-choice America. The campus chapter of College Democrats issued the invitation, citing Kerry’s “remarkable dedication to the doctrine and principles of Catholic social teaching.” Lifesite news

  6. Part Time Pro-Lifer

“The discipline must be applied in order to avoid serious scandal, for example, the erroneous acceptance of procured abortion against the constant teaching of the moral law. No matter how often a bishop or priest repeats the teaching of the Church regarding procured abortion, if he stands by and does nothing to discipline a Catholic who publicly supports legislation permitting the gravest of injustices and, at the same time, presents himself to receive Holy Communion, then his teaching rings hollow. To remain silent is to permit serious confusion regarding a fundamental truth of the moral law.” Archbishop Raymond Burke on Canon 915

State Senator Joe Robach, a professed Catholic, is an abortion supporter in the cases of rape and incest. Assemblyman Joe Morelle, another professed Catholic, describes himself as “pro-choice”. He was endorsed by NARAL in the last election.
